..... The Veendam Formal Dining Room was opened every night of the week for passengers as set dining. There were the same two other people at your table and you really had an opportunity to get to know.
Out of 1200 other passengers, this was a great opportunity to get to know people at close range over time. At our table were two Australian woman who were travelling together to Alaska and back again. They became good friends and came to my Birthday Dinner mid week …..See the Photographs here

_________________________________This was a special night for the ships chef ..... we all wore chef's headgear for this one night near the end of the week. All the table waiters had special headgear on as well. Then came speech by the ships chef where he honoured all the assistant chefs and had them parade up and then down the the flight of stairs between the two levels in the formal ding room.
